Elin I was writing an email today to my list and I remembered what you said about how you had the most success in your career when you didn't plan for it and worked for the pure joy of making. I had a similar experience on Medium in 2017. I wrote there for a year without expecting anything, just loving what I made. By the end of the year I started a pretty decent business that supported me financially for the next 4 years. I'm going to approach Substack in 2025 the same way I approached Medium in 2017. I'm just going to trust that good things will happen now that I'm very in tune with what I'm making again.
Yes I think this sounds like an absolutely brilliant plan!! We’re on the same wavelength (I’m planning to approach Substack this year like I approached my business 2016…)
sales are beyonf my experience; but yes, dreams are like that. pretty much. one needs so be really stubborn. folks will think you're crazy. it might be they're right. it might be though they're right-and you're right too. thank you, Elin
Love this post Elin! So important to change the narrative about sales!
There’s nothing icky about selling, it’s an art and it’s necessary to bring amazing things to people. I remember when I worked in the wellness industry in a tech sales role, some people would really laugh at me for working in sales, for being a “bad human” because of my job, selling a mental health app. 🤦♀️
With sales, as with many other sweet things we’ve tasted before in life and want again, it’s helpful to embody the excited self that tasted the honey the first time, the self that really believed in the dreams come to true and the self of the future, really makes a difference I find.
Because otherwise we may end up playing too small, really thinking we suck and give up too soon and tell ourselves that it just wasn’t mean or see it as a “sign from the universe” etc. Interesting patterns I see especially in the wellbeing space.

Yes, stubbornness sure helps to keep moving through the noise of everyone else 🙏🏼
The loop is fulfilled, until next time - hahaha! Yep, the dramatic episodes of being an artist, never a dull moment 💜
Haha indeed, never a dull moment 🥰

Thank you so much for sharing your experience!! I can only imagine… sales have such a bad rep and not an easy niche to be in!!
Appreciate you 🫶🏼
