Love this! I’m so excited to be creating my art here on Substack. There can be so much noise around what ELSE you have to do in order to be here. It feels like a whole separate job to have to market the art. Here’s to focusing on the craft itself and putting energy where it matters!
Indeed!! There’s noise everywhere about everything, and it’s our job to adapt the filters in ways that serve us (and don’t let the filters rule us) you’ve got this xx
I am with you… the amount of time that I can get sucked into reading all the ways to better my business and art on s/s is crazy and exhausting! So cheers to both of us making art today!!! Enjoy!
And thanks to you Elin, I spent several glorious hours making art today! It was such fun and my iPad and the notes section of substack was nowhere near me… just my paints, canvas and music!
I’m on the journey of doing exactly all this and I look forward to seeing how it all pans out. The only thing I know for sure to right now is that I’m done with the old paradigms and I believe and trust more in the unknown than the known.
Absolutely love this Amber!! More trust in the unknown than the known… so simply put and so powerful. Reading it, I think it’s exactly how it is for me too! Learning to get comfortable with the uncomfortable and unknown to the extent that it becomes… joyful and exciting 🫶🏼 cheering you on!
Elin, I’m so grateful for your words once again. Your passion and wisdom always bring me gently back home to why I write and share, and they filter out all the negative self-talk (usually things such as ‘I’ll never be able to be financially stable as a full-time writer’). You remind me of the importance of focusing on what brings me joy in my creative journey 🤍
Wet timely… I sat down just this afternoon to empty my brain of all of the questions that I have swirling about my head on the focus and direction of my business. This is what I needed to hear… so thank you!!
I totally resonate! And feel like I’ve lost so much time through the years to supposedly “productive admin work”, which did nothing but reduce the amount of art I made… and as such… less content, less share, less connection, less progress - it’s paradox and fascinating really.
Love Every word of this post!!! So Hopeful and intuitively so on point with what I’ve always hoped (& secretly believed) to be true about the best way forward for me!!!
I loved this read and your focus on the act of continuous creation. I am in the process of painting more pieces so I can finally make prints and this post made me feel like it's more than possible to get where I want to go as an artist. Thank you for sharing your insights!
Thank you so much for sharing and restacking 🥰 keep making more art! And you’ll continue to hone your craft and have more choice for how you monetize it down the road 💜
"Just make your art, and share it with the world consistently in whatever way that comes natural to you." I love how this was repeated a few times throughout the piece, Elin. I've been feeling a little insecure lately about how my more personal writing has been doing here on Substack. But after reading this, I realize I'm doing all the right things. I'm sharing my art with the world and staying true to myself. If that attracts an audience or not is irrelevant. I've already won because I'm creating what I love.
Hi Thomas! Thanks for coming on over, excited to see you here and appreciate your vulnerability. It’s very fascinating how the “artsy” side of things can feel so much more difficult than the straight out business/strategic stuff. When writing or doing any form of art in a way that you’d do regardless of whether someone sees it or not, is the most fulfilling thing. And, I truly believe, that if you keep at it long enough you’ll eventually get there wi the that type too, not just the strategic stuff. You’ve got this 🤗
Being you, doing what you love, showing up consistently as you fancy in YOUR way.
That NOiSE Elin - so much of it distracting us.
Thanks for the lovely mention too. I’m going to be reading my memoir parts of my book you’re reading on my substack. I’d not mentioned it to you, I don’t think.
Yay what a fabulous idea!! Writing the mother-artist column has made me so INTO memoir and have found myself reading more elsewhere too… love how intuition becomes a ripple effect of goodness when we dare to lean into it 💖

Thank Jenna 🥰 it’s so true, as soon as we lose the joy for our art and making, what’s the point anyway? xx

Thank you for being here Ellen!

It’s such a gorgeous genre. Your mother-artist column contributes to it.
One of my upcoming PWT episodes is with memoirist Clover Stroud. Think you’ll like it 💞
I’m 💯🥰
✨I needed this so badly. I’ve been struggling as of late, but you really put my struggles into perspective. Thank-you! ✨
