Elin I saw this in a documentary the other day "You have the right to work only, but never to its fruits. Let not the fruits of action be your motive. Nor let your attachment be to inaction." Your line "It’s when we let goals dictate our actions, that I think we lose the part that made us want to pursue the arts in the first place." made me think of this. Thanks for this newsletter today. I'm writing and publishing my memoir on Substack in 2025 and I'm absolutely terrified. But your reminder that art is supposed to be about swinging for the fences and detaching from outcomes was very helpful today.
Thanks so much for this reflecting comment and for sharing that powerful extract from the documentary - I wholeheartedly agree!
It’s a constant balance to stay true to one’s heart in this profession and to not let in to the constant noise of doing business a certain way because it’s what we rationally think will lead us to xx rather than following our intuition and falling in love with the process of it all 🙏🏼 haven’t read the updates… but saw a note a while back that you might’ve changed your mind to go back to the us - are you staying in Mexico? I’m not American, but I think that no matter where you’re from, as soon as you’ve left you get invaluable perspectives for what matters… and to see that one can create an incredible life wherever one chooses to make a home 🙏🏼✨
Hey Elin! Thanks for asking about me! Yeah, so we’re going back to the US because we believe there will be more opportunities for my wife to get a job there. She’s got a Master’s Degree and the job search in Mexico seems to be a little corrupt sometimes with people hiring friends/family instead of the best candidates. Will be tough to leave Mexico, but I think we will be okay. :) Happy New Year!
Wishing you the best of luck ✨ regardless you’ll be experiences richer 🙏🏼 and only time will tell.
It’s always incredibly valuable to live in the other persons culture for a while no matter what happens. I’ve lived in France with my husband and he’s lived with me in Sweden too (now we’re neither in France nor Sweden haha but that’s another story), but having lived in each others home countries give a deeper understanding and connection which your marriage will always benefit from 🎊
Such a beautiful reminder Elin 💕 I literally just wrote down in my notebook about taking aligned action (going with my gut and what feels good and dreamy) instead I pushing for an arbitrary goal ✨
I reflected on 2024 to vision in to 2025 and realized how I thought this year would go and how it did go were totally different. Which made me realize how the biggest dreamiest things may not even be in our minds now but in the moments we meet in the future 🥰
I love this Megan!!! It’s crazy how hard it is to remain a dreamer, don’t you think? I feel as though I constantly have to remind myself that ”dreams brought you here, not some professional strategy”. I wrote a follow up to this sentiment that I’ll share tomorrow, I think you’ll love it. And I’m so excited we’re on the same wavelength 🥰🫶🏼
TOTALLY!! I feel like this past year has shined a light and how much I’ve come from my vision and then strategy and the shoulds- I literally went to to type because I need to realistically make it happen and then I remembered the title of your article 🤣🤦🏼♀️
So totally same wavelength- I can’t wait to read it!!
I'm ready!! Hoping to start an MA program in 2025, but is that realistic? I have always wanted to teach university level, but need this to make that happen. Dreaming of it...

Also, why is how profitable it is the key measure? We need space to dream, fail, soar, and make our voice heard/seen.
Yes 🙌🎊 just wrote about this in a follow up essay that’ll come out tomorrow 💖
My pet peeve!
