Dropping gems all over the show! Thank you for sharing what you have learned. So fascinating. I’m dipping my toes into LinkedIn marketing to market an Japanese language app we just created. And it feels like the beginning of Substack where I’m trying to figure out what the heck I’m doing. 😆

Thanks Mika!!

I also love to learn about processes by others so I thought this would be interesting and a relief for those feeling overwhelmed.

Right, it’s a learning curve on every platform isn’t there! And it’s interesting to go into the metrics and see which actually does the job you’re looking for (social proof to build followers, or conversion to email list vs conversion to paid and so on)

Love this take Elin. It’s fascinating to learn more about the decisions you took in your business.

I hosted a Masterclass last year called Choose Two based on the premise of choosing two platforms to create on. The reason it was two is I was still straddling my corporate work so was 90% here and then on a 1/2 day a week I would show up on another platform. It made such a difference to my creativity to make this framework for myself. Now I pop up on IG and LI if I have something exciting to share like sharing the podcast today.

I’m yet to tackle SEO and so my VA pins to Pinterest and that drives traffic to my free offers but I NEED to nail it this year. If you do have advice on SEO I’d love to hear it maybe in a future post.

Thanks for all you share inspiring us to use this space and all our spaces creatively! ✨✨

Thanks Claire!

When you mention Pinterest and SEO you mean optimizing your pins to be found on search or to use Pins as external links to enhance your authority for substack?

You say Pins lead directly to free offers, are these different offers or all on Substack? What type of free offer is it?

I’m not an expert on SEO! And it can easy become robotic if you concentrate too much on it. The way I approach it is the same as my whole business really; what would someone look for who’d be interested in what I have to offer? And then I position the CTA, alt text for pin images, SEO optimized pieces and so on for that.

What a gem thank you for sharing Elin!

Fascinating to be learning more about your thinking process. Love Claire’s comment on SEO for substack, Pinterest but neither are currently my focus areas, just curious.

I’m personally known for wanting to „dance at too many weddings at once“ the German saying for wanting to commit to everything and get thinly stretched because I am genuinely so excited and have so many ideas.

My „problem“ is not so much the platforms but more the offerings themselves, I have so many ideas…. 😅

I dedicated to building slowly and sustainably for it to become a larger focus during motherhood in the future - when I will hopefully not have to return to my corporate job (saying this here in the safe space of your comments haha) 😇

Love that you feel this as a safe space Carmen 💞 it’s the first time I experiment with a paywalled comment section (partly for my own sanity as there for 100+ comments on the previous one…. And partly to have it as a more valuable Q&A and feedback setting more than just commentary… what do you think?!)

I totally see your perspective; being ambitious creatives it’s easy to see the value, potential and possibilities on all the platforms depending on what we want to do.

Having had my businesses before babies I can’t emphasize enough how valuable the email list is. No matter what you do or how you choose to drive traffic to your projects, build an email list. Because you don’t know what children you’ll be blessed with… I was blessed with a first born who didn’t sleep her first year… I was not human! I could’ve never imagined it would be like that as all I heard was that babies just sleep. She could literally be awake 24hrs straight no problem 🤯

I’m so excited to be chatting about these things as I think it’s quite different preparing for the scenario before vs when you’re in the midst of it…. I’m all ears for this 😍👏💗

I think paywalling comments is a great thing for writer and reader sometimes and in this case yes I can share stuff I can’t share publicly as I’m a „corporate slave“ as my bf likes to tease me 😂

I am surprised how you keep up anyways with all the comments everywhere ! 😘 btw I don’t expect responses and hope others neither ;)

You could also try the chat function for paid subs on certain topics as it’s easier to find things again but makes a lot of sense also to keep under a post. I haven’t really looked into it.

Have you considered adding to your embroidery courses a “business” course or do you prefer more the book case study way and membership here for these topics?

These are the things I’m thinking about for my potential offering / products beyond writing in the future. I have some PDF guides from a few years ago I could build on

This year is dedicated to figuring out what I want to „build on the side“ and how without having the pressure that it needs to be successful for now.

I co-built a mentoring program for early stage female founders in the past and occasionally get requests on LinkedIn to give feedback to people’s business ideas and go-to market strategies. Sometimes I ask myself what advice I can give myself 😂

And yes to email lists that’s why we’re here 😅

The no sleep thing as a mum really terrifies me - I got 6 hours last night. Zombie today. You probably say 6h is luxury.

I don’t even remember when I had 6 in a row… probably 4 years ago 🤣🤣🤣 notice the “in a row” doesn’t mean that u don’t get to stay in bed occasionally, in fact… I’m in bed right now because my kids have a 6th sense for knowing when mum tries to leave the bed and decided to wake up…. But it’s rarely too many hours in a row without someone waking up to pee, drink water, boob, someone snorting *hrrm*hrrm 😅

I think being prepared will still help you to deal with it better somehow. Entering motherhood was a slap in the face for me xD i just turned 25 and was quite fit so I thought it would be bounce back right away, easy peasy…. Hell no 😆 so yeah, just don’t put the bar too high and you’ll be good to go haha 🫣💞

I have a business course on my academy it’s just currently offline though. The thing with business courses that involve strategies of different kinds is that you got to stay in top of it much more. Embroidery courses are fantastic for that, the information doesn’t get outdated whereas business is an ongoing thing especially in online business… that’s why incorporating my experience and exploration in a more fun and “continuing” way like here in substack feels more aligned with how I see things. I don’t really think there’s a one way to do it or one way to make it happen because when we think we’ve got something figured out, everything changes and it can be really hard.

Algorithms is one example, but even the way email marketing campaigns are structured… sales patterns change yeah it’s just a lot!!

I’m working on a concept around intuitive marketing and copywriting as a way to build a more long term sustainable approach that translates through time…

Ahh yes of course the business course content can “expire” that makes a lot of sense to change the format. Thank you for sharing! 💕

LOVE LOVE LOVE the intuitive marketing and copy writing concept you’re dreaming up currently!

Re babies

I was an au pair a few times to fund travels, living and / or studying abroad so I got some training in bottle feeds at night for a few weeks one time 😂

but I guess you can never really prepare for anything as much as you may want to. That’s the fun and beauty of life.

Oh girl, wanting to bounce back fast sounds like an unnecessary pressure and expectation

Hey so glad to hear your reflections here!

I’ve done lots of scheduling, it’s been brilliant to be honest. Pinterest was almost entirely scheduled. I’d create the pins and my husband would schedule 5/day for 2 weeks in advance.

On Instagram I scheduled for a couple of months when I had my first baby and it took off a lot of pressure (I hardly returned after though, but that’s another story… I simply didn’t find enough roi compared to putting effort on my email list and Instagram got very toxic for me being a new mother).

The only downside with scheduling is the lack of real time engagement. A platform like Instagram fuels on performance within the first couple of hours, which is when you’d want to be available for commentaries etc.

May I ask who you target your posts to? Are you looking for collectors, partnerships, exhibitions or fellow artists? (Other artists/creatives may be a combination of all of course).

Where do you direct your people from Instagram, meaning what’s the purpose of your posts currently?
