Love this! My kids are grown but I am enjoying finding my voice on Substack. I love the idea that I write what I want to say and the people that want to hear that will read it. I can let the rest go. Beautiful. Looking forward to checking out your posts!
Amazing thank you so much Cindy! I find this to be a solace at every stage of life as well as cross-overs between those stages (like you being here with me despite being on the opposite side of the children spectrum). Love it and so grateful to have you along ❣️
Ah what a fun coincidence! How did you find the experience? I remember greatly appreciating how much freedom to design and develop the concept we got 🫶🏼
I had a really positive experience! I was surprised by how much control I was given - I actually designed the whole layout too so the editors hardly touched anything except for copyedits. My second book is with a different publisher and the experience is totally different. It’s extremely collaborative and we’ve been in the editing phase for 8 months. But I think I actually prefer this second approach! More hands on deck to help the final product shine.
Yeah same here, it was my husband who edited the covers etc. I was very surprised how we really got to everything... both in a good and bad way I suppose haha.
That’s fantastic that you get to have two different experiences! I self-published my first so only had that to compare with and I felt that I did more or less the same work but... that someone else took a big cut (and I still think I got a decent advance) 🫣 the next one will be about watercolor too?
This next book is actually an illustrated adventure memoir and nature guide, so it's quite different. Much more personal and no tutorials. And took 6x as long to make!
I will always be your cheerleader! Your transparency and thought-provoking honesty is what is needed in our chaotic world where all is not as it seems. Your writing speaks to those of us who do not follow the herd.
Wow. So glad someone shared this in their feed. Because I deeply resonate with you and love your approach. And your writing voice. Two things got some snaps and Amens from over here in Maryland, USA:
"But when it comes to writing, I’m guided by intuition and don’t delve on content too much before I hit publish (or else it would never be published at all!). " I totally get this and have found it to be true. But shied away out of shame. I feel very seen right now. In the best way.
"Write what matters for those who care”. The rest is not your business." I recently got into with a friend and subscriber who misunderstood a recent letter. It became a whole thing. And my main takeaway, "this wasn't for you. Nor was it about you."
I also write to clarify my thoughts. AND BECAUSE this newsletter was awesome and I have a bidding desire to visit Sweden, I have to subscribe to you. I'm a biased reader. 😜
Great post Elin, you really nailed down what you're about and I'm excited to keep reading. You're essays are soulful, authentic and so needed. Keep lighting the way xx
Thank you so much Lua for your support and encouragement ❤️ means so much to know that my message resonates and that I’ve been able to transfer it clearly 🙏🏼 x
I am always pulled to open and read your posts. This one is super inspiring. Inspiring because you are here on your terms and it is obvious you are following your intuition. And, in my experience, intuition IS simple. It’s often us who complicate it and over analyze what it is we “have to” deliver. (Oh wait, that’s me I’m talking about). I read this at the right time because I’m struggling with what I want to write about this week. Struggling because I’m over complicating things. I’m going to pivot back a bit and keep it simple this week. I loved reading this and learning more about you and how you intend on showing up here. I’ll stay tuned ✨Awesome hero post.
Oh and this line: “ I write in the naps and gaps of motherhood and have to keep it simple.” 🙌🏻 🙌🏻
Thank you so much Allison this really means the world 🙏🏼❤️ you’re not alone, I overthink a lot of things which is why I’m consciously trying to go “head on” with the simplicity mindset from the start to better hold myself accountable to it.
The naps and gaps expression I first saw from @laurenbarber and then some other places too so in the end I wasn’t sure how to credit it in the essay - that said I want to give credit to Lauren for being the first one to bring it to my attention and she is all about soulful business linked to motherhood too 🙏🏼 x
A wonderful read. I love your frankness and look forward to reading more. As a previous textile artist, I used go follow you on IG and listen to your podcast from time to time. I moved on from that time and it's so lovely to 'discover you'll over again.
Thank you so much for sharing, I’ve only been on SubStack for a couple of months too, so it’s great to hear how others are getting on at this early stage!
I love this and get inspired to do the same Elin! It was so fun to read and peak into your world a bit more
30 new curious souls decided to join my corner of substack in the last 2 weeks (lots for me) and I feel like they and also some old ones would really deserve a proper hello.
I’ve been hiding a bit I feel because I don’t quite not what’s important to share. There’s so much changing and shifting for me so maybe that’s exactly where I need to start...
Yay I’m rooting for you Carmen!! You can always change it as you evolve - but I definitely find a relief in having “clarified” and “simplified” my intentions in a concrete way 🙏🏼
Ahh thanks so much Louise! I dare to say that the straight to the point tactic allows me to write a bit faster... and well... the minimum editing policy forces me to get it out there.
To be honest I’ve been wanting to launch a newsletter like this for a couple of years. My husband has been encouraging me and yet it still took time... so now that I’m finally here I want to give it my all. Maybe it’s my Gemini nature or something else, but when I’m excited and committed to something there’s no turning back (all or nothing 🫣)
Grateful to have connected with a fellow fiber artist on here too ❤️

Words of wisdom Cindy -Let the rest go.
Hey Elin! Really enjoying your writing. Also, we have the same publisher! My watercolor workbook came out from Page Street in 2021. :)

Oh I can imagine!!
Love the purpose behind your writing. Following your intuition will lead you down an authentic path!
Thanks Niall! I’m excited to follow that journey 🙏🏼
I'm following the same journey! It's an exciting one :)
I will always be your cheerleader! Your transparency and thought-provoking honesty is what is needed in our chaotic world where all is not as it seems. Your writing speaks to those of us who do not follow the herd.
Cheers!
Ah thank you Debra for coming on here!! I wasn’t sure ❤️ you’re truly an angel sent from heaven ✨ cheers!

Thanks so much Laura, I’m thrilled to have you here regardless of whether it’s secretly for the Swedish draw or not haha 😆
The “this isn’t for you nor was it about you” is so so so on point!! 👏👏👏
I’ll have to have a look at your stuff too - I saw you’re a homeschooling mom, I’m hoping to go down that route too 🙏🏼❤️
I’m excited about this!!! Thank you!!!
Yay thanks Kimberly! 🤩
I loved this! A great starting point. And I love that I can now put a face to the name. You’re an inspiration.
Thanks so much Sri! I’m not that much for putting pictures of myself haha but thought this was a good purpose in accordance with “get to know me” 🤗

I love this and I'm also so impressed at the amazing articles you've written already in your short time here. May 2024 hold all good things for you 🧡
