Hi there,
Hope you’re well!
You may know that I started this Substack publication 6 months ago with 0 subscribers despite having a significant list and art business elsewhere.
You see, as much as I needed a new outlet to regain my creative strength after trying times, I’ve also spent the past months intentionally observing, testing and questioning in order to get a better idea and understanding of how to move forward in my artistic expression.
I needed to do so OUTSIDE of my main art-business ecosystem. Free from the hidden rules I had set myself with regard to what to share, how and when.
To some extent, what I’ve done the past 6 months is a proactive way of finding the next pivot…
Your art evolves along with you, and so does your priorities and the tools you use to share your art with the world too.
Since I first launched my art business almost 8 years ago now, I’ve become a mother, moved countries multiple times and evolved what started as an Instagram account (Petronella.art) to share my embroidery art, into a full blown art academy.
I’m launching an ART MAGAZINE and you’re invited
I more or less stopped to share to mainstream social media when I became a mother 4 years ago.
It completely drained the little energy that I didn’t have and made me feel less than in a time when I would’ve needed support more than anything.
Ps. This is something I’ll write about in the paid Mother-Artist column here on Follow Your Gut - hoping to have the first essay ready for next week 🤞🏼💕
To be an artist and choose to not post to social media feels like a taboo… even more so when you’ve got a significant audience of 500k+…. Like WHAT A WASTE! Or?
I don’t think anything you do is a waste, because it will always bring you new experiences that you wouldn’t have had otherwise. Experiences that most likely will have a big impact on how you’ll be able to move forward and continue to grow.
For the past couple of years I’ve been thinking about the next step, how to share my art again in a way that feel authentic and fun to me without all the extra drainage…
Petronella.Art Magazine, a place to get inspired AWAY from the social media clutter!
And suddenly, last week, I just knew. I knew exactly how to proceed and I’ve been setting up my new publication over the past few days, along with the preparation of the first magazine gifts..
This feels like a big moment. Even more so because I literally just hit publish on the first edition, which talks about “The Slow Dream Life” and how art is as necessary for the creative soul as a ball is for the soccer player…
What is the difference between Petronella.Art and Follow Your Gut?
My art magazine was the missing puzzle in my art-business ecosystem. The way I look at it, it represents the “front-end development” whereas Follow Your Gut will continue to represent the “back-end development “ meaning chatting about the behind the scenes stuff of what it means to lead an artist life and business.
I hope you’ll enjoy to check out both spaces 🥰 Here’s the first edition:
Thank you so much for reading!
And as promised… All paying members of Follow Your Gut will get a free trial/comp (need to figure out the technical bits still… sorry!) to my new space. I will send a separate email about the details as soon as I can 🥰🙏🏼
Elin xx
Ps. Below is an insight of another couple of versions for the Magazine cover… do you think I chose the good one haha?
Wooho🥳🥳 this is great!! How exciting!! ❤️
Exciting, congrats!! So great when the pieces fall together just right.
I feel like there must be something in the water because I'm about to kick off my substack in a reimagined magazine-style format this week as well!! 💓 Creating here is much more fun and joyful than social media these days
